Joshua Tree Slot Canyon & Corridor Adventures

Who is the Slot Canyon & Corridor Adventure program for?

Mojave Guides’ Talus Cave, Corridor & Slot Canyon Joshua Tree Tours are appropriate for all ages. However, larger adults may find some of the small spaces uncomfortable. This program is part hiking, part rock scrambling, sometimes with a side of caving! We can check out some of the well-known canyons and corridors (like Chasm of Doom and Hall of Horror Joshua Tree), or we can get further off the beaten path to explore large water eroded canyons. Our Corridor & Slot Canyon Joshua Tree Tours are all private and you will not be grouped with another party. This allows us to customize the day to suit your specific needs, and what you are looking to get out of it. We look forward to having you out there in the slot canyons and corridors!

NOTE: Please use the tabs below to select Half Day (AM), Half Day (PM), or Full Day, then choose the number of participants in your group. These rates are for our standard 4:1 guest-to-guide ratio. Groups larger than 12 people may want to choose our Large Private Group program instead, which is offered for a lower per-person price and run at a 6:1 ratio. Please contact us for details.

FAQ

    • Our guide to participant ratio is 1:4. If you have more than 4 participants in your party you will have multiple guides, providing you with ample opportunity to achieve your goals, and the option of splitting the group if necessary.

    • We offer half day (4 hours) and full day (8 hours) Canyon and Corridor Tours. A full day will be exhausting for most, but could be just the experience you are looking for! Because our programs are private, you can end your day early if you decide you’re satisfied.

Slot Canyon & Corridor tour start times

    • Our Joshua Tree tours and activities are set to default start times of 8am and 1pm, but we are happy to change this once you have made a reservation. In most cases, changing the start time will result in a shorter overall program because your guide is likely booked for a program after yours, and because the sun sets early for much of our season. We will do our best to accommodate your requests.

What to expect at the park

    • You will need to follow your guide into Joshua Tree National Park in your own vehicle, probably a half hour or less. You will be required to show or purchase a park pass to enter. Please make sure your vehicle has plenty of charge and/or fuel when you arrive.

After the canyon and corridor tour

    • Our days end out in the park. Keep this in mind when you’re planning. You might want to drive around and see some sights or to watch the sunset and unwind afterward.

Please visit our FAQ's page or contact us if you have any further questions.

  • Our default meeting location is the Joshua Tree National Park Visitor’s Center parking lot (6554 Park Blvd. Joshua Tree, CA 92252) You will receive a booking confirmation with a map link and more details. Meeting location is flexible, please contact us to arrange an alternative.

  • In an attempt to keep our rates low for you, we do not provide snacks or beverages. However, nice “grab n’ go” lunches can be purchased at the Roadrunner Café, which is attached to the Visitor’s Center where we meet.

  • This activity requires a lot of “scrambling” over and under boulders, or on slick surfaces. Flexibility and a basic level of fitness are required. Don’t worry, we’ll size you up and choose appropriate objectives.

  • The Chasm of Doom is one of Joshua Tree National Park's most thrilling hidden gems, a narrow, winding slot canyon carved through massive granite boulders that requires ducking, squeezing, and scrambling your way through tight passages. While it's technically within the park, it's the kind of place most visitors drive right past without ever knowing it exists. Mojave Guides' Canyon & Corridor Tours include the Chasm of Doom as a potential stop, and our guides know exactly how to navigate it safely and make the most of the experience. It's appropriate for most fitness levels, though guests who are uncomfortable in tight or enclosed spaces should let us know in advance.

  • Great question and an important distinction. A guided hike focuses on trails, elevation, and the sweeping landscapes Joshua Tree is famous for. A Canyon & Corridor Tour is a completely different kind of adventure: think less trail walking and more scrambling over boulders, squeezing through narrow rock passages, ducking into talus caves, and exploring the dramatic, cathedral-like corridors formed by Joshua Tree's iconic granite formations. It's more physically interactive and tactile, making it a fantastic option for adventurous families, groups looking for something beyond a standard hike, or anyone who wants to feel truly immersed in the geology of the park. If you want both, our Choose Your Own Adventure program lets you combine the two.

  • The Canyon & Corridor Tour is one of our most popular family activities, and kids almost universally love it. The scrambling, the caves, and the sense of discovery make it feel like a real expedition. That said, it does require more physical agility than a standard hike. Participants should be comfortable climbing over and ducking under boulders, navigating uneven and sometimes slick surfaces, and moving through occasional tight spaces. Your guide will assess your group's comfort and ability at the start of the tour and select routes that are the right fit. For very young children or guests with significant mobility limitations, we recommend reaching out before booking so we can help set the right expectations.
