COVID-19 Resources

Mojave Guides COVID-19 Response & Protocol.

Like all small businesses in California, Mojave Guides has made some changes to our standard operations in response to Covid-19. Our decisions have been fact based and following the guidance of the National Park ServiceThe American Mountain Guides Association and our countystate and federal governments.

We feel very fortunate that our services have been offered exclusively outdoors from the very beginning. This has made the transition to operating in “time of covid” a fairly easy one. Social distancing is maintained whenever possible, if we must be close to each other we mask up and try to keep it brief, hand sanitizer is a regular part of our kit, and the traditional handshake greeting has become an elbow bump. These are all things we have became accustomed to in our daily lives anyway and you probably wont think twice about it. Here is a list of specific additions to our already high standards of care:

  • Masks. Because we operate outside, we do not require our guides and participants to wear face coverings. However, you are more than welcome to bring and wear one, or request that your guide wear one if / when they are within 6 feet of you if you’d like.

  • Social Distancing. Fortunately there is a lot of room to spread out in Joshua Tree National Park. Lessons can be taught, and safety checks preformed, at a safe distance. When we do need to be close we try to keep it to just a few minutes or less.

  • Hand sanitizer will be available in our client care kits that go out on all of our programs. Its use is encouraged between climbs, before eating or drinking anything, after touching your face, etc.

  • Education. All of our guides are thoroughly educated on Covid-19 risk management techniques and have been empowered to make any necessary adjustments or decisions before and during our programs. Any guide who shows symptoms of Covid-19 will immediately notify our office, take a Covid-19 test, and self quarantine until negative results are received.

  • Cancellation Policy. We tend to fixate on your health and safety, but we don't want to get sick either! If you need to cancel because you think you may have contracted Covid-19 please let us know as soon as possible, even if that's just before your meeting time. You will be refunded everything but the $100 deposit, which we will happily apply to a future reservation for you. Although it is unlikely with all of our other precautions in place, there is a small chance that we will need to cancel your reservation and others in the event of an increase in local Covid-19 cases, park closure, or an outbreak among our staff. We apologize in advance for any inconveniences, but safety is paramount.

  • Communication. Our guides will take the initiative at the beginning of your program to let everyone know what is expected and how to maintain a safe environment. Please do not hesitate to ask questions at any time if you are unsure of something.

Rest assured, the heath and safety of our guests has always been our highest priority.
