FAQ
-
Our guide to participant ratio is 1:4. If you have more than 4 participants in your party you will have multiple guides, providing you with ample opportunity to achieve your goals, and the option of splitting the group if necessary.
We offer half day (4 hours) and full day (8 hours) guided hiking experiences. Because our programs are private, you can end your hike early if you decide you’re satisfied.
What to expect at the park
You will need to follow your guide into Joshua Tree National Park in your own vehicle, probably a half hour or less. You will be required to show or purchase a park pass to enter. Please make sure your vehicle has plenty of charge and/or fuel when you arrive. To get an idea of the hikes we cando, feel free to check out our blog post
After the hiking tour
Our days end out in the park. Keep this in mind when you’re planning. You might want to drive around and see some sights or to watch the sunset and unwind afterward.
Please visit our FAQ's page or contact us if you have any further questions.

Our guided hikes are set to default start times of 8am and 1pm, but we are happy to change this once you have made a reservation. In most cases, changing the start time will result in a shorter overall program because your guide is likely booked for a program after yours, and because the sun sets early for much of our season. We will do our best to accommodate your requests.

Our default meeting location is the Joshua Tree National Park Visitor’s Center parking lot (6554 Park Blvd. Joshua Tree, CA 92252) You will receive a booking confirmation with a map link and more details. Meeting location is flexible, please contact us to arrange an alternative

In an attempt to keep our rates low for you, we do not provide snacks or beverages. However, nice “grab n’ go” lunches can be purchased at the Roadrunner Café, which is attached to the Visitor’s Center where we meet.

Joshua Tree has an incredible variety of trails, and the best one for you depends on what you want to see and how much ground you want to cover. First-timers tend to love the Barker Dam Trail for its wildlife, water, and Native American petroglyphs; the Skull Rock Nature Trail for its surreal geology; and the Ryan Mountain summit for sweeping panoramic views of the park. Our guides know hidden corridors, slot canyons, and off-the-beaten-path spots that most visitors never find on their own — which is exactly why a guided hike delivers a completely different experience than going it alone.
-
All of our guided hikes are fully customizable in terms of pace, distance, and terrain. We cater to everyone from young children on their first national park visit to seniors looking for a scenic and educational experience. Before your hike, your guide will discuss your group's fitness level, mobility, and goals to map out the perfect route. There's no one-size-fits-all itinerary here — if someone in your group needs to slow down or turn around early, that's completely fine. Private tours mean we move at your pace, not ours.

Yes, all visitors entering Joshua Tree National Park are required to have a valid park pass. You can purchase an annual America the Beautiful Pass (valid at all national parks) or a single-entry pass at the park entrance for $35 per vehicle as of 2025. We recommend purchasing your pass in advance online at Recreation.gov to avoid entry delays, especially on busy weekends. Your Mojave Guides guide will walk you into the park from the Visitor's Center meeting point, and any pass questions can be addressed before your tour begins.
